The Polk County Historical Society serves one of the largest counties in Northwest Minnesota. Communities within our borders include Beltrami – Climax – Crookston (county seat)- East Grand Forks – Erskine – Fertile – Fisher- Fosston – Gully – Lengby – McIntosh – Mentor – Nielsville – Trail – Winger.
Our museum is located in Crookston, MN. The main museum grounds at 719 E. Robert Street features eleven buildings including agricultural displays, the beautiful Hafslo prairie church, a blacksmith shop, and a renovated caboose. We also curate Crookston’s old Carnegie Library at 120 N. Ash Street, one block east of Crookston’s historic downtown district. The Carnegie hosts many traveling exhibits and is undergoing renovation to serve as a county archive and community event center.
Polk County is rich in history of all sorts! Exhibits cover fur trading, Red River Ox Carts, agriculture, prairie living, and much more. Research is available upon request.
Our museum is open Tuesday-Sunday beginning immediately after Memorial Day and running through the second Sunday of September. Regular hours are 12:00-4:00.
